Year 5 Textiles Projects

Lesson: Art and design

Class: Year 5 Year: 2022 - 2023

Year 5 have been creating fabric relief panels, then they investigated the construction and deconstruction process using fabric to make rainforest hangings.   They explored using a range of ways to attach and alter or 'deconstruct' the fabric.   Alongside our rainforest theme, the children created a large-scale batik on cotton fabric using brusho paints and wax.  This involved melting the wax and painting it on our Henri Rousseau design so that the solid wax created a barrier.  The bright brusho paint was then applied to the 'Tiger in a Tropical Storm' piece.  The final part of the process was to melt the wax away using an iron.
