Dance
At Sherwood, our Dance curriculum forms part of our Curriculum for Physical Education. Throughout the Key Stages, pupils are taught to perform dances using a range of movement patterns. A broad and balanced dance education curriculum is intended to provide for pupils’ increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement. The activities offered and the teaching approaches adopted seek to provide pupils with opportunities to develop their creative and expressive abilities, through improvisation and structured routines. Quality links are made across the Curriculum to support the delivery of our Dance Curriculum.
CALLING ALL ASPIRING DANCERS
Last year our Dance Team performed a powerful and emotive dance to celebrate the values of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The dance secured our position as both Champions of Preston and Lancashire!
We are now starting to prepare for the 2023 competition and invite all children from Y3-Y6 to consider auditioning for a role on the Dance Team.
All children interested are asked to prepare a short dance at home to perform in auditions later this term.
The piece of music for the audition is available below so that preparations can be made at home. The children may choose to dance for the full peice of music or just a part of it.
Your child can prepare a range of movement or choreograph a dance from the following genres: contemporary, street dance or ballet.
No prior dance or stage experience necessary!
Audition dates:
Monday 5th December (Y3-4)
and
Friday 9th December (Y5-6)
