Emma Cockburn-Hyde
I am proud to serve as Chair of Governors at Sherwood Primary School, a school that played an important part in my own childhood as a former pupil. Having lived locally all my life, I understand the school’s importance within the community and the responsibility we hold as governors to protect and strengthen it.
I was appointed Chair of Governors in February 2025, following a period as Vice Chair. In this role, I lead the governing board to set strategic direction, provide support and challenge to school leaders, and maintain a clear focus on improving outcomes for every child.
Professionally, my background is in governance leadership.
For five years I worked within a large multi academy trust supporting schools across England. I advised members, trustees, governors and senior leaders on statutory compliance, exclusions, complaints and governance effectiveness. I worked with boards to strengthen accountability, improve practice, and ensure decisions were lawful and well evidenced.
I have also worked in local authorities, supporting the democratic process, advising senior decision makers and councillors, and working alongside external partners in publicly accountable environments.
These roles have given me a strong understanding of leadership, accountability, risk management, and the practical application of governance in both schools and public authorities.
