Willow Artist Comes to Visit in Y4

Lesson: Art and design

Class: Year 4 Year: 2024 - 2025

This week, Cherry Chung, a willow artist, is visiting in school.  She is working with Year 4 to weave a bumblebee sculpture made from willow and metal.  The children enjoyed working in a third dimension using flexible long rods of willow.  They learned a new technique to feed the long rods through the metal framework using both hands and lots of dexterity!  We are looking forward to seeing the giant sculpture installed outside in our school grounds in the near future.  It will form part of a set of 4 minibeasts.  Keep a look out for our wonderful new outdoor art on display!

The children enjoyed asking Cherry questions about her role as an artist and her background in arts and culture.  Thank you to Cherry for a wonderful, authentic experience!
