Anglo-Saxon Village life through oracy

Lesson: History

Class: Year 4 Year: 2025 - 2026

This afternoon Year 4 have been exploring village life in Anglo-Saxon times. We started by thinking about what we thought life would be like and sharing ideas with our partners. We were then split into small groups to look at areas such as settlements, daily life, homes, food and feasting and farming and hunting. The children were then given a specific statement to memorise using muscle memory whilst walking or sitting, remembering the fact given. We then moved into our expert groups and shared our facts with our group. These were then written down from memory to use at a later date. The children enjoyed being active whilst learning facts about Anglo-Saxon life.
