Safety in the Sun

Sun-cream Update for Parents and Carers

6th July 2017

Following a number of concerns raised from parents with regards to pupils’ safety in the sun, please take some time to review our revised guidance/policy.

We continue to ask that all parents and carers at Sherwood School help their children to apply sun-cream before coming to school. This is an important part of safety each morning; it will show the children how to safely apply cream and will ensure that children are safe to participate in outdoor activities in the morning.

It is also vitally important that our children continue to bring a water bottle to school and an appropriate summer hat or cap to wear when learning or playing outside during warmer weather.

Children are invited to bring a named bottle of sun-cream to keep in their PE bag or School bag. Children will have the opportunity to apply cream at midday before their lunch/going out to play.

Please do not send your child to school with a brand of sun-cream that they have not used before.

Children will be asked not to share sun-cream with their friends/peers.

Please show your child how to apply sun-cream safety (particularly around the face). We request that parents only supply roll on or squeezy bottles of sun-cream as opposed to spray bottles.

Children in our Foundation Unit will be supported applying their cream and from September 2017, our Foundation Unit will introduce their own procedures for managing this.
