Spelling in Year 5

Our aim in Year 5 is to teach the children to develop a range of personal strategies for learning spellings, and for checking and proofreading spellings in their own writing.  Spelling activities will be sent home on a regular basis as an extension of the work completed in school, and will involve exploring a particular spelling rule or pattern, along with learning the Year 5 statutory words. The children will be regularly assessed on their knowledge of these words and patterns, enabling us to support them with their spelling strategies. Click on the downloadable files for a more comprehensive overview.
