Year 3 2017 - 2018

Ms Rowland

Mrs Mirza

Welcome to the Juniors!

We are really looking forward to the year ahead with your child. It is an exciting time, moving out of the infants and starting the Key Stage 2 Curriculum. We are sure the transition will be smooth and your child will settle quickly into their new routines.

Spellings- Our aim in Year3 is to teach the children to develop a range of personal strategies for learning spellings, and for checking and proofreading spellings in their own writing. Spelling activities will be sent home on a regular basis as an extension of the work completed in school, and will involve exploring a particular spelling rule or pattern, rather than learning a list of words each week. The children will still complete spelling tests in school to assess their understanding, but this may not be on a weekly basis.

All other homework, including Maths homework, will be given out in your child’s own Homework Book on Friday. Please ensure that the Homework Book is handed in by the following Thursday. We hope that this will then provide enough time for activities to be completed and any questions answered. If work is completed before Thursday it can be handed in any day before.

P.E. lessons will take place on: Tuesday and Friday with extra tennis on a Thursday morning for this half term .

This will involve both inside and outside activities. The children will need a clearly labelled drawstring bag containing a white top, navy shorts and pumps. For outdoor activities, the children are encouraged to bring in warm clothing and trainers. Please ensure that each item is clearly labelled with your child’s name. Long hair must be tied back. It is helpful if you can practice tying ties and shoe laces at home so the children can become independent dressing for P.E.

Homework Book This is a school work book. Please support us in encouraging your child to take pride in their work and their presentation. There is some guidance for the children in the front cover of the homework book.
